Discharge Question,Anal Gland?!?

What does the anal gland discharge look like?
Can it be kind of "goopy" (like clear snot) and/or have a yellow tint to it?

Does it smell like "butt"?

We were sitting on the couch watching NCIS when Abby got up and twirled herself around and I felt a wet spot on the couch and noticed another one that she started licking at. They stunk horribly!

I looked to see where it came from and I couldn't tell. Neither "part" looks infected, irritated, or anything else.

Should I call her vet tomorrow? She's acting fine, and has been fine all day today. Though she did seem uneasy right after this happened.

It got on my arm and on my leg, I've already taken a shower and it still smells . I read online that alcohol will help remove the smell so I'm going to try that. Luckily we had a couch cover on and that's in the washer now. Her "area" still smells too.

And no, she hasn't been scooting, licking her butt incessantly, she is spayed and hasn't had any symptoms of a UTI.

My beagle has it..ahhh I HATE it lol.

Sounds like yours does too, it kinda smells fishy/pooy lol. *eww*

I wouldn't worry about it, buttt if you want to take her to the vet, they can squeeze the glands so they are not overflowing.

when we took our dog he said that we need to feed our dog food to make her stools more hard.

She actually hasn't had any anal problems since that time...knock on wood!

I find it can be a bit like cottage cheese, or more liquid, but certainly foul smelling. Make sure there is no foul smelling discaharge coming from her vulva, this is most worring in an entire bitch.

You can have a go yourself at emptying her anal glands/checking them - got any latex gloves? I'm sure your vet can give you a quick lesson if needs be :D

Abby has been spayed so no female parts to get infected, I hope.

As far as doing it myself I wouldn't... it's so very easy to cause them discomfort and make a big mess trying it. I'll leave it to the vet.

my girl has it! It sucks...horribly. It ALWAYS requires a bath. I do what Barby does and feed things with high fiber to harden her stools or poop lol. It varies dog to dog how bad the problem is we have a "leakage" incident about once a week but since feeding pumpkin (she loves it too) and switching foods it's gotten better. Sometimes trips to the vet to have the glands expressed get expensive;our vet charges about $8 each time and an office fee :o. You can ask your vet to teach you how to do it on your own. Then it's less expensive and your dog isn't as scared.
