My beagle is just over a year now and she has been eating dog and cat poo. She's been doing it since I got her. This is really disgusting and I'm worried that she may get sick from doing it. I try to keep her away from it but can't catch her every time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Her own poo? or others? There is another post on this very same problem in the training forum, and great suggestions there as well.

My dogz do the same thing. They will not get sick. Trust me. Okay? Like I have this one dog that has been eating it ever since she was a puppy. (That was like five years aog.)

Several things you can do to stop this Petsmart makes a product that will make anything a dog chews on or eats taste horrible next time you see some you think she might like spray it without her seeing you once she trys that stuff she will stop might take 2 or 3 times but fi you stay consistant with it she will soon associate poop with that taste and stop.

There's actually an episode of "It's me or the dog" in which they train a house of pugs to not eat poo. I think it's on their website. Basically what they did was some second order conditioning. First they trained the dog to avoid some little wire flags. They would show the dog the flag and when the dog turned away from the flag, they would treat him. They continued to condition this, progressively increasing how far the dog would have to walk away from the flag before he would receive the treat. Then, whenever one of the dogs would poop, if they didn't have time to clean it up right away, they would post one of the flags right by the poo.

But probably the best strategy is just to clean up your dog's poo immediately after evacuation. As for the cat poo, you could put a cover over the top of the litter box with an opening too small for the dog to get through.
