I had to get my 6 year old beagle fixed because he was bleeding out of his winky. It scared me and I took him to the vet and they said he had a enlarged prostate. The cause of the prostate being so large was to much testatrone going through his system. He said 98 percent of the time that is the cause. So I had my boy fixed and I feel bad but I had to do it. I wanted to breed him one more time before I was made to get him fixed. He is doing alot better now no more blood and he is taking antibotics for his prostate to decrease in size.

Iam so glad your beagle is doing well, I had my beagle fixed because I didnot want any puppies  and his personality is still as sweet as ever.

Yeah snoopy was already really mellow. It just broke my heart. I hate it when I see my dogs in pain. I got his daughter fixed so I could just do stud service and that didn't work out quite like I planned. Now I don't have the decision. But I really don't care at least he got to have one litter. His health is all that matters to me.

whats the general thoughts on getting beagles "done" we were told by the breeder not too as he would put on weight , the wife took ralph to the vets this afternoon to have his nails clipped and he asked if we had thought about it , he wouldnt commit either way if it was a good thing or bad ?

I really didn't want to get my beagle fixed but I had to because of his condition. But they might put on a little weight but as long as they have alot of excersie they should be fine. Snoopy and Zowie didn't gain any weight. Snoopys weight came on when I brought Zowie home and he didn't want her to get the food and he would eat it all. Before Zowie came into the house he would never eat his whole dinner, but now he does and he has put on weight but it was not from having him fixed. I think its your decision.
